Taku River 2004

Entrée Canada offers a unique experience with possibly the bravest guide in the country. Simply known as the “Bear Whisperer,” Phil Timpany (pictured here) has 22 years experience guiding travelers through the underbelly of remote northern BC and the Yukon. Hosting small groups, guests of Phil go the distance (literally!) for these intimate viewings, traveling by helicopter from Atlin, B.C. 30 minutes to a wilderness camp.  It’s worth the journey—you can actually observe mother bears tending to playful cubs, fishing for salmon, or slowly wandering nearby.

A longtime wildlife enthusiast, Phil is also a conservationist who advocates for peaceful co-existence between grizzlies and humans and for habitat protection.

Entree Canada offers a large collection of bear viewing expeditions starting in June through to the end of October.

Warning: Expect close encounters—Phil gets you as close as possible to these beautiful creatures providing spectacular photographic opportunities.
