Best known for cutting-edge itineraries that lead her clients to places and experiences otherwise inaccessible to the traveling public, Ellison is the “go to” person on travel for some of the nation’s leading publications. Each year since 2007, Travel + Leisure & Condé Nast Traveler have named her among the top travel specialists in the nation. In addition, she has been featured and referenced in the NY Times, Wall Street Journal, National Geographic Traveler, Gourmet and many others. “Raised with an atlas alongside Dr. Spock”, according to Fred, Poe Travel’s founder and Ellison’s father, she had circled the globe by age six. A former resident of Vienna and of Paris – fluent in both German and French – Ellison has served on the advisory board of Abercrombie & Kent and Virtuoso and currently serves on the advisory boards of Condé Nast Traveler and Saveur and is a former board member of Taj Hotels & Resorts.

Margaret began her career in the travel business as a corporate agent right here at Poe Travel. She quickly rose through the ranks working as (among other things) our GSA and Army account administrator ultimately to become our inimitable CEO and co-owner with Ellison. Margaret reinvented the way we do business on the operations side. She is a deft leader, one frequently quoted in travel trade magazines and asked to speak at numerous conferences, including Sabre World. Among her favorite places are East Africa, Australia, Western Europe, and the Galapagos Islands. Other points of interest about Margaret: she has a Masters in exercise physiology and used to teach ballroom dancing. Asked why she retired those dancing shoes, she says lightly, "Who has the time?" Another stat: Margaret is an avid and gifted golfer who has played all over the world on courses in Scotland, England, Ireland, and Africa. Perhaps even more impressive, she can fix almost anything and has a well-stocked toolbox that would be the envy of any handyperson. She’s truly a Renaissance woman—whether dancing a tango or repairing printer. Her myriad skills were needed when growing up in a large family, in which everyone was expected to contribute. Margaret, who has a twin brother among other siblings, comes from a tight-knit clan that includes 29 first cousins. "Irish Catholic," she says by way of explanation. Her love of travel was born early on during family road trips. The family was so large that they had to divide into two cars, a station wagon (wood-paneled, we assume) and a Cadillac. She now travels mostly by plane, to places like Istanbul and the Greek isles, and most recently to Israel, where she led a life-changing trip in the fall of 2010. Of her job at Poe, Margaret says she "wears many hats." We’re just guessing here, but is one of those a tam o’shanter?

Teresa is a rare find in the leisure business. She has a knack for seeking out the deals of the century and delivers them day in and day out. Her inimitable expertise and contacts in cruising and resorts throughout North America, Mexico, and the Caribbean make her indispensable. She is also an integral part of the team in the International Department, working closely with Ellison Poe. After leading a group to Africa, Teresa fell in love with that part of the world and can’t wait to return. Her daughter Megan works in the film/TV industry in Los Angeles.  Ellison says of Teresa, ͞She works behind-the-scenes to make things happen and keeps me ontask.͟ This includes invoicing and maintaining the client database. She also holds the title of master calendar keeper. Sometimes she operates on cruise control, meaning that she leads the Nursing Cruise. She also likes to make stained glass in her back-yard shop and relax by her koi pond. An animal lover, she one rehabilitated a baby squirrel (who came to work with her) and tends to the pack of feral Poe cats.

Rachel was born and raised in Little Rock and is a recent graduate of Hendrix College where she studied sociology and art history. Her favorite trip was to Kenya in 2007. Morocco and Nicaragua are both on her bucket list. She enjoys playing tennis, hiking, skiing, and baking (presumably not all at the same time). In quiet moments, she likes to cozy up a mystery or biography.

Lacey James has been in the travel business since 1994. She started out in leisure travel and has dedicated the last decade to our corporate and air services. Lacey enjoys building client relationships and meeting their diverse needs. She has a strong work ethic, thrives on challenges, and loves the fast pace that corporate travel brings. To unwind, Lacey loves to camp and hike around Arkansas with her husband, who served two tours of duty in Iraq. Her dream trip would be Bora Bora, or anywhere in the South Pacific—and, some enchanted evening, she’ll make it there.

Beth started her distinguished travel career at Poe Travel in 1980. Her experience includes working in international corporate and leisure travel, luxury cruises, affinity groups, corporate oversight, and operations. In early 2008, after a hiatus, she returned to her roots at Poe Travel. Beth brings incredible depth of knowledge and is well versed at designing upscale, personalized travel in North America, East Asia, Europe, and the Mediterranean. Beth also has long-standing relationships with cruise lines Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, Holland America Line and Seabourn.  She’s also a certified Virtuoso Voyager Club Host and is designated by the Travel Institute as a Certified Travel Counselor and a Virtuoso Accredited Agent. Having exerienced several herself, Beth believes that river cruising is one of the best ways to travel (and she long ago predicted the recent river cruise boom). One of the highlights of her career was leading a group of Catholics to the Holy Land, and she someday hopes to guide trips to Spanish religious sites. At home, Beth stays busy with church activities and has been to Honduras seven times on mission trips. She also enjoys volunteering at a local shelter and spending time with rescue dog Reesie.

Angela Simon, a seasoned traveler and craftsperson par excellence, joined Poe in the fall of 2012. Her background (and skill set) is all over the map, including stints as an interior designer and paralegal. She also worked in a Chicago sweatshop, making jewelry for high-end stores, and served as project manager for a Hazardous Waste Research and Information Center— experiences that have made her unflappable in the fast-paced world of travel. (Really she’s just happy to have traded in her hazmat suit for a tidy blazer and smart pair of flats.) The mother of two, Angela can craft anything—no, really, anything, and usually from recycled materials—whether it be an extraordinary itinerary or a fanciful headpiece adorned with birds. (Before joining Poe she owned a very cool sewing and craft business.) The wildly creative Angela loves road trips with the whole family and all that that entails: singing in the car, junk food, stops at roadside attractions, whining . . . well, mostly the junk food. What she loves most about travel is that it gets you out of your comfort zone, brings family closer together, and gives rise to funny stories that become part of family lore.  Her top travel experiences since coming to Poe: snuggling with a koala in Australia, snowmobiling in Iceland, and snorkeling the Great Barrier Reef. To sum up her travel ethos, Angela says, ͞If the packing list includes hiking boots and a fleece I want to go there.͟ No surprise then that she’s become a Certified Iceland Specialist in her time here. Other stats: Best family trip: a summer spent living in Tanzania Close runner-up: sea-kayaking and camping at the base of a glacier in Alaska

In addition to being a Documents maven, Beth also lends her many talents to orchestrating the biannual Poe Travel Bazaar (no small feat). (She’s also been known to whip up an auction at her daughters’ elementary school with equal skill and panache). Before coming to Poe in 2011, Beth worked her marketing magic in several ad agencies and other companies. When not at the office, Beth enjoys spending time with her husband, Charlie, their two girls, and their pack of rescue dogs—four to be exact.   Fav trips include a family trip to Estes Park, CO, and Iceland. She someday hopes to travel to Spain, Patagonia, East Africa, and Alaska. And, yes, she’s a dead ringer for Gwyneth Paltrow. She gets that a lot.

A mother of five, Ann has a background in education and has worked in oncology for the past seven years. Ann and family are outdoor enthusiasts; they love to camp, hike, go caving, really, any and all outdoor activities. They are active and sporty like that. In 2017 they all piled into an RV and traveled cross country for the summer, star gazing, hiking, and making many memories along the way. A couple of years ago Ann and daughter Abbey went to Tanzania to teach English to the Maasai and volunteer at a school, helping set up social programs for high school kids. Someday she would like to return to East Africa with the rest of her family. Ann is an all-around delightful person, and we’re lucky to have her.

Paula Lee has worked in the travel industry since 1997 and became part of the Poe team in 2012. Paula brings a sunny and serene disposition and a passion for the art of travel, spending countless hours researching new destinations and properties and learning about what’s au courant worldwide.  She’s also a veteran cruiser and has sailed the Mediterranean many times—visiting the French Riviera, Italy (her favorite), Sicily, Malta, and Greece—as well as Alaska, the Southern Caribbean, and the Mexican Riviera. She discovered a love for barging on a trip with Belmond Afloat in France.  In addition to her cruise cred, Paula also has a Switzerland Specialist Certification and a Bermuda Specialist Certification. (We call her our ͞Swiss Miss͟ . . . well, we don’t, but we should.) She’s also traveled to Hawaii on multiple occasions, visiting each island, and has ventured all over the US and New Zealand (where she fearlessly bungee jumped off a bridge! How many grandmothers can say that?!). Her destination bucket list includes: the South Pacific, Australia, and Central and South America. Paula is particularly partial to road trips, which she learned to love as a child, and in 2011 embarked on a solo cross-country adventure to Southern California which she says was ͞fantastic!͟ When not taking to the open road or working, Paula enjoys spending time with family—she’s a mother of two and grandmother of eight. Other likes include exercising, listening to music, and hiking.
