Perhaps when you think of a relaxing vacation, you imagine ocean waves and sandy shores, but we’d like to suggest something a little different: a desert retreat. This is exactly what you’re in for when you head to southern Utah, where you’ll find Amangiri nestled in its beautiful, stark surroundings. Situated on 600 acres of land, Amangiri is surrounded by a whopping five national parks as well as the Navajo Nation Reservation in the USA’s Grand Circle Region.

You’ll approach via a winding road, marveling at the stunning scenery, and see the Central Pavilion, which is the heart of the resort and is built around the resort’s striking pool. Here, you’ll find the living room, library, and gallery, as well as the resort’s restaurant.

Accommodations at Amangiri & Camp Sarika

Amangiri’s 34 suites fan out on either side of the Central Pavilion in two elegant wings. All suites offer private terraces, fireplaces, king-size beds, and private courtyard entrances. For the ultimate in privacy and an at-home feel, you should go for the four-bedroom Mesa Home, which is hidden from the resort behind a rock escarpment and functions as a private residence. All accommodations are air conditioned in the summer and heated in the colder months, making Amangiri a year-round resort.

If you want a slightly different option, you can head only a 10-minute drive or 30-minute picturesque hike away from the main resort to Camp Sarika by Amangiri, where you will find ten tented pavilion accommodations, all done in the high quality you’d expect from Aman. Camp Sarika has its own Common Pavilion and restaurant and also has access to all the amenities on offer at Amangiri. Camp Sarika evokes the expansive and inspiring environment out of which it emerges with luxurious, yet simple, elegance.

Resort Amenities

The resort’s restaurant (accessible for guests at the resort or at Camp Sarika), The Dining Room, is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. All meals are included in the nightly rate at Amangiri, as are non-alcoholic beverages. The fare here is inspired by Native American culture, but it has touches from all over the world, celebrating the local community with a modern approach. The restaurant overlooks the pool and has both indoor and outdoor options, depending on the time of year. You’ll have to tear your eyes away from the stunning desert views to take in your delectable meal.

Not to be missed is the Aman Spa. Aman is always known for their incredible wellness experiences, and their spas are all top-notch. Amangiri is no exception, and it truly is a destination in its own right. The holistic spa menu draws on Navajo healing traditions, with spa journeys designed to restore hozho, Navajo for “beauty, harmony, balance, and health.” In the 25,000-square-foot spa, you will find five treatment rooms, two outdoor treatment terraces, the Water Pavilion, the Floatation Pavilion, a fitness center, a Pilates studio, yoga studio, swimming pool, and more.

Activities Near Amangiri

While we wouldn’t blame you if you spent your entire stay at Amangiri relaxing by the pool or indulging in the spa, it would be something of a travesty not to take advantage of the range of outdoor activities on offer thanks to the resort’s gorgeous desert setting.

Amangiri is only a 15-minute drive from the shores of Lake Powell, where you can enjoy some of the most amazing scenery on the Colorado Plateau. We recommend enjoying the turquoise waters aboard a high-speed motorboat. Another must-do is a climb on the Via Ferrata (Iron Road), which requires no experience and provides otherworldly views. There are of course plenty of hiking trails that begin on-property and take you to picturesque views and other sites of interest.

Experiencing the pristine desert tundra on horseback is an iconic American Southwest adventure, and Amangiri can arrange exactly this for you, offering an extensive trail system with routes to suit all experience levels, so there is no need to fear if you are a beginner! For another vantage point, view the desert from above in either a hot air balloon or private fixed-wing aircraft or helicopter.

Slot canyons, which have been sculpted over millions of years by wind and water, represent some of the region’s most unique sandstone formations with their curving, multicolored walls, and Amangiri offers guided walks through a number of these that are close to the resort. You can also explore the nearby Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park and any of the nearby national parks., including Bryce Canyon, Zion, and Grand Canyon National Parks, all within a 2.5-hour drive.
