A trip to New Zealand appeals for so many reasons, one of which is definitely the staggering natural beauty contained within its islands. This far-flung destination is a bucket list item for many, and we recommend making the most of your long-haul flights by thoroughly exploring both the North and South Islands while you’re there.

Only an hour and a half from Christchurch on the South Island, you’ll find Flockhill—and you’ll want to make room in your New Zealand itinerary for a few days here. Picture this: a four-bedroom homestead just for your family or group in the rugged wilds of New Zealand. Since 1857, Flockhill has been a working sheep station. It features 36,000 acres of mountains, basins, forested slopes, river flats, tussock, boulder fields, winding streams, limestone outcrops, and pasture. The sprawling landscape is overseen by the Homestead, softened into the terrain, bearing witness to life in the Southern Alps.

A previous guest once described Flockhill as feeling as though she had an entire national park to herself. Doesn’t that just say it all?

The Homestead

Retreat into this four-bedroom exclusive-use luxury homestead, complete with a private chef. Shades of natural timber harmonize with the surrounding landscape. With views from every room of Lake Pearson, Sugar Loaf, Purple Hill, and beyond, nature and design are blurred as the Homestead brings the outdoors in through handmade pieces and organic textures. This escape capitalizes on the natural beauty of its surroundings with no compromise on luxury. The Homestead encourages you to slow down and indulge while also fostering your sense of adventure

Each of the Homestead’s four bedrooms features modern comforts such as a king-sized bed, gas fireplace, air conditioning, en-suite bath with a view, private terrace, underfloor heating, Wi-Fi, and more.
