Why Book a Group Sailing?
Well, when a “group” only takes a booking of three cabins or more, why not?! Here are just a few of the extra amenities your small (or large!) group might receive on this AmaWaterways sailing:
Group discount per person OR free land package for Zurich, Lucerne, or Amsterdam
Virtuoso amenity program (varies by sailing but this is usually a $75 per person onboard ship credit or similar)
Complimentary cabin upgrades wherever possible, based on availability
As for why to book a group on this specific itinerary, let’s take a look at the day-by-day of this enchanting sailing to see if you can visualize your European adventure.
Bear in mind, too, that there’s always the option to extend your journey with a pre- or post-cruise land package in Basel or Amsterdam. . .
Day 1
Basel, Switzerland
You will be transferred to the AmaStella to board your Rhine River cruise this afternoon, either from your hotel if you have enjoyed a pre-cruise land package or from the airport if you are arriving this morning. With excursions to cater for many different interests, Breisach is a fabulous gateway today.
Perhaps you’ll choose to step back in time with a visit to the enchanting Alsatian town of Colmar, which looks almost the same as it would have in the 16th century. Set off on a walking tour to admire historic architecture and glimpse the Statue of Liberty, a small replica of New York’s famous version, displayed to commemorate the sculptor Colmar’s birthplace.
Those wishing for something a bit more active for today’s pursuits can choose to cycle or hike through the scenic countryside through the heart of the Kaiserstuhl, a volcanic region in the Rhine plain known for its unique landscapes, vineyards, and biodiversity.

For a more active adventure, join a guided hike up the Philosopher’s Path, aptly named during the Romantic Period. At the top, you’ll be rewarded with stunning panoramic views of Heidelberg. Active travelers can also choose to cycle along the river Neckar to the medieval town of Ladenburg for some free time to explore the shops and quaint Marktplatz.
Alternatively, you can visit Speyer, one of Germany’s oldest cities, known for its Romanesque Cathedral, which is the largest of its kind in Europe and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Later in the day, sail to Rüdesheim to visit Siegfried’s Mechanical Instrument Cabinet or taste some of the town’s special delights, Rüdesheimer Coffee, which is ceremoniously made with brandy.
